Chadwick Boseman Changed History As Black Panther His Legacy Will Live Forever

Chadwick Boseman passed away on August 28, 2020, after a private, four-year battle with colon cancer that has left the world in mourning. As the first Marvel, black superhero who starred in his own big-budget movie, Chadwick Boseman changed history. Black Panther was a role model for children around the world and the movie was released during a time when civil unrest was looming in the heart of America. If there is anything that can be said about Chadwick’s heartbreaking passing, it is that he was able to portray the character T’Challa/Black Panther and touch the lives of children worldwide before his death.

Chadwick will forever be remembered for his contributions to racial equality and though to some, it may seem that a movie role isn’t much of a contribution, make no mistake about it — it is. In the mind of a child, the seeds that Chadwick planted as Black Panther will stay with them and grow.

Chadwick Boseman chose to keep his fight against cancer a private one. Now that the world understands what he went through, the fact that he continued working while dealing with surgeries, chemotherapy, and fighting for his life is astounding. It also shows why Chadwick was the perfect person to play Black Panther.

Only a true hero would continue working the way he did. To not pass up the role (roles) of a lifetime in order to bring hope to young children around the world who are in desperate need of black superheroes and role models, while fighting for his own life is the very definition of heroic. When stories surfaced following Chadwick’s death that he had visited children who were suffering from cancer in hospitals and brought joy to their lives, no one was surprised.

Anyone who saw Black Panther in movie theaters when it premiered on February 16, 2018, knows the impact the movie had on children. It could be felt — it was tangible. For the first time, black children went to movie theaters and saw the screen filled with superheroes —strong, powerful, intelligent warriors — who looked like them.

Chadwick Boseman left this world too soon, but he has left a legacy that will live on.

He has touched the lives of millions and a new generation will grow up with a superhero who lived an honorable life, was true to his craft, and championed his way through the evils of cancer heroically.

Wakanda Forever, Chadwick Boseman.

Thank you.
