Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire kicks off with Kelly in his car, he receives a voicemail from Captain Cunningham telling him he needs to come inside. He arrives at the fire house and whines about how cold it is outside. Boden calls an emergency meeting and tells them that they are under a cold weather emergency and it is negative 15 degrees outside, 40 degrees below with the wind child. They need to take extra precautions to make sure that all of their vehicles and equipment is working properly.

They stock the fire trucks with salt, and Casey tells Gabby to go outside and salt the driveway. She rushes back in and yells for Mills and Sylvie – she found a newborn baby outside of the fire house in a box. She shouts that they need to check the baby for hypothermia. They all gather around the baby as Mills checks her vitals – she appears to be just fine. They can’t take her to the hospital because the ambulance is being repaired so they are stuck taking care of the baby until they can transport her.

Cunningham arrives at the fire hall, and is not happy about the arsonist being taken out by the Chicago Police Department. She hasn’t come to talk about the arsonist though – she leaves Kelly a file about another fire that they have no evidence to go on. Kelly laughs that he isn’t going to help her, Cunningham tell Kelly to “get his head out of his ass” and leaves the file with him.

Boden’s dad shows up at the fire house, Boden takes him in to his office and gives him paperwork he has on a cancer treatment facility. He tells his dad that this will give him a chance to see little Terrenace walk one day.” Boden’s dad doesn’t want to hear it though, he wants to die on his own terms. He wants to celebrate and live, not spend his last few days at a medical center.

Cruz is not taking the cold well – he cries that he isn’t going to survive another winter in Chicago. He announces that he is looking for flights out of Chicago, and he is leaving town. Gabby is obviously attached to the baby that was left under the “Safe Haven” sign. As soon as they get the ambulance up, they are about to take the baby to the hospital, but a call comes in for chest pains and Mills and Sylvie have to leave for a call. Gabby is carrying the baby around the fire house and a woman rushes inside and yells that she wants her daughter Grace back.

The woman cries to Gabby, Boden, and Casey that the baby is her’s and her boyfriend dropped Grace off without her permission. Boden tells her they have to contact the Department of Child Welfare before they can give her back the baby – the woman promises that she will be back with proper documentation to prove she is the baby’s mother.

Mills and Sylvie arrive in an alley and a kid named Chris is wandering around in circles yelling and scratching his arms – he says there is bugs under his skin. He insists he just smoked weed with his girlfriend, and says that she wandered in to an abandoned building. Mills gets to work on Chris, and Sylvie heads in to the building to look for his girlfriend. Mills is trying to call for back-up but the radios are down and not functioning properly because of the cold weather. Sylvie is inside the abandoned building and has no cell phone service and her radio isn’t working properly. Sylvie finds a homeless man inside the building, she gives him some handwarmers and tells him to go outside and tell Mills where she is.
Kelly visits Cunningham after going over the file that she left for him. He says that he thinks whoever started the fire was doing it to burn down the servers, not the files. Cunningham reveals that six firefighters nearly died in that fire, and they would have been gone just like Shay. Cunningham sends she needs a person like him with his talent and his dedication on her arson team.

The homeless man comes outside and Mills puts him in the back of the ambulance with the kid that overdosed. Meanwhile back at the fire hall Grace’s mother returns with paper work. Gabby already spoke to the doctor and she knows that the baby was a preemie. Gabby catches the woman in a lie, and realizes that she isn’t really the baby’s mother and doesn’t know anything about her being a preemie. Gabby tries to go get the chief – but the woman pulls a gun on her and demands that she hands over the baby. Boden and the other firefighters rush in to the room, and the woman runs out the backdoor with the gun. Boden calls the police and they put an APB out on the woman, Boden says they are sending the baby to the hospital ASAP so that he is not in danger anymore.

In the abandoned building Sylvie finds the girl, and she falls through the floor – Sylvie catches her by one arm and they lay there dangling calling for help. Mills finds them, but they can’t pull the girl back up until they get her unhooked from the bar that is stabbed in to her stomach. Crus can’t get a hold of Sylvie or Mills on the radio – so they all rush to the abandoned building to help. Kelly uses a saw to cut the bar that the girl is impaled on and then they carry her back to the ambulance.

Gabby takes the baby to the hospital, Sylvie meets her there. The woman was caught by the police and is in custody – the baby’s real parents are en route from Indiana. Apparently she was kidnapped right out of her house when she was just a baby. Boden heads to Molly’s where his dad surprises him with an over-the-top Hawaiian luau. All the firefighters arrive to drink mimosas and Cruz sunbathes underneath a heat lamp. Kelly sits down at the bar with Cunningham, she apologizes to him for what happened to Shay. He smiles that Shay would have loved this party.
