The Official UK Charts Company reports the record outsold it’s nearest rival, Barry Gibb, by two to one.

“To have a chart-topping album at this stage of our career is especially gratifying,” the band said in a statement to OfficialCharts.com.

“The UK has always been a huge part of our story.“

Revolution Radio is Green Day’s first album in four years following a brief hiatus as singer Billie Joe Armstrong went to rehab for prescription pill addiction and guitarist Jason White received treatment for tonsil cancer.

‘Bang, Bang’ the albums lead single addresses the culture of mass shootings, telling a story through the eyes of a perpetrator.

The song was written after Armstrong attended a protest march in New York following the killing of black teenager Michael Brown Ferguson.

“It was happening all over the country.” Billie told Rolling Stone Magazine. “It was a trip to see people rebel against the old order.”

“I was feeling that people don’t want to feel obsolete in the things that we care about.”
